Suffer a Witch is a new serial fiction by Claudia Hall Christian set in modern day, Boston, Massachusets. The story begins on June 10, 2014. Claudia will publish two chapters a month for fifteen months.
The story is published in five segments a week -- Tuesday through Saturday. A special sixth segment called "Who Was" will be published on Sundays. The "Who Was" segments will include biographies of the Salem Twenty.
The story will wrap up on or around September 22, 2015. At that time, the story will be available in eBook and paperback.
Emogene "Em" Peres transforms into an immortal witch after being hung as a witch in Salem, Massachusets in 1692. She and the other Salem Twenty now live, work, and love in modern day Boston, Massachusetts where Em runs a spiritual store called the Mystic Divine, just off the Boston Commons.
On the anniversary of the first hanging, June 10, 2014, Em learns that a young man and a team of ghost hunters dedicate themselves to uncovering the location of where the Salem Twenty were buried. The problem is that she and the rest of the Salem Twenty are making full use of their skeletons and have no intention of giving them up.
Suffer a Witch is filled with all the things you’ve come to expect from Claudia Hall Christian — great characters, heart pounding love, and more than a dash of fast-paced adventure.
What is serial fiction? How is it different from serializing?
The crux of the issue is that these are different things that share the similar names and all involve publishing.
1. Serializing - This is when a completed book is doled it out a chapter at a time for people to read. We serialize Claudia's novels for people who like to read online and want to read for free. Finding North is currently serialized for people who want to read it a chapter at a time. This is a publishing strategy.
2. Serial fiction - This is a story that's written as it's being published. That means that Claudia starts a story with no idea of what's going to happen or how it's going to end or, in the case of Denver Cereal, IF it's ever going to end. (Denver Cereal started in June, 2008 and continues every week.) When Suffer a Witch begins, Claudia and her readers take the journey together.
There is also something called "series fiction" - which means having a book in a series - such as the Alex the Fey thriller series or Dean Koontz's Odd Thomas, etc.
For Suffer a Witch, we'll make eBooks out of the chapters and put together a book at the end of the serial. So the chapters will roll out 2 chapters a month, when we reach 15 months, the story will end.
